HARRY POTTER

Christmas Ornaments

I started to donate a Christmas tree to my town’s event called Festival of Trees last year. This year I wanted to do a theme I’ve always wanted to do. A Harry Potter Christmas Tree. Ever since I watched the first movie, I knew one day I would get the opportunity to do this theme and that day finally came, 22 years later.

I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter. Although I have never read the books but I do love the movies and the storyline, it’s right up my alley. When I got married, I didn’t know at the time I was marrying a bigger fan of Harry Potter. My husband is probably way more into Harry Potter than myself and that’s ok. We can enjoy it together now.

Back to the Christmas tree now. A lot of the ornaments on my tree that I donated are DIY ornaments. Because some of them you can’t find in stores or I didn’t want to spend a million dollars on one ornament. Maybe if the tree was for myself but it’s not. Plus I thought making the ornaments would make it extra fun, cute and special.

Daily Prophet

DAILY PROPHET ORNAMENT

This is probably the easiest ornament. All you need is to be able to print the the newspaper out and have some jute, twine or any ribbon on hand.

Step 1-Find which daily prophet report you want to use. I just google searched in the images and got mine from there. You want to print two copies on one sheet of paper. So they would be two 5×7’s.

Step 2-Once you get it printed, grab additional 4-6 sheets of paper. They can be blank or with whatever wording on them. You can place these pages behind the printed page and then fold the small stack of paper in half so both of the newspaper reports on showing on the front and back (hamburger style) of the bunch. This will make your newspaper look like a mini newspaper.

Step 3- Next you want to gently fold the paper in threes. Make sure you don’t completely flatten the paper so it gives the illusion that the newspaper is full.

Step 4-Tie your string around the paper to keep it secure.

BROOMSTICK ORNAMENT

BROOMSTICK ORNAMENT

The materials for this ornament are: jute/twine, 3″-5″ stick (I got mine from my backyard) and these mini scented brooms I got from Home Depot (they are way cheaper in stores) or you can get them on Amazon.

Step 1-Start with taking the binding off of the broom. It will be a little messy.

Step 2-Next wrap the broom bristles around one end of the stick.

Step 3-Tie the jute around the bristles and make a knot. Then wrap the jute 3-5 times and finish with around simple knot.

UP TO NO GOOD

I SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT I AM UP TO NO GOOD GARLAND

The materials for the garland are: jute/twine, Harry Potter Book (cheap one you can find at a thrift store or eBay), Elmer’s glue/hot glue gun, Black construction paper and vinyl for the words.

Step 1-Start with a page of the book (you can also use a half of regular copy paper). Fold the paper, accordion style, front and back. I fold about a 1/2″ size pieces.

Step 2-Once the paper is done. Fold the fan in half and glue, so it makes a half circle. Hold the paper for a minute so the glue can dry.

Step 3-Repeat steps 1-2 for the other half of the circle.

Step 4-Once you have your two halves. Add glue to the flat side on one half of the circles and glue to the other half. Hold until it dries.

Step 5-The circle might be a little loose but nothing that glue can’t fix. Once the circles are complete, add a 2″-2 1/2″ black circle paper with glue on the center of the circle.

Step 6-Lastly add your words. Hole punch a hole on each side on the circle for the twine to go through and hang on the tree. I just wrap the ends of the twine around a tree branch.
