  • (12) 1 x 2 1/2 @ about 13in-measure and cut to fit
  • **We used birch but you can use sanded pine. If you stain your door, kept in mind that the different woods could stain differently so try to use all the same kind of wood.

**If you are painted your barn door, use primed pine board. I think we bought 6-7 8ft boards. If you are staining your barn door, use either select pine (more expensive but has no knots) or douglas fir.

Tools & Materials:

  • Wood Filler
  • Wood Glue
  • Electric Sander (optional)
  • Gallon of Paint
  • Paint Sprayer (optional)
  • 120 or 220 grit Sandpaper
  • Table Saw
  • Miter Saw
  • Finish Nail Gun
  • 1in Finish Nails
  • 1 1/4in Finish Nails
  • Hammer
  • Nail Punch
  • Painters Caulk

Step 1-You’ll need to cover that plywood edge first. You’ll use your 3/4 x 3/4 pieces to do this. You should be able to get your pieces from one 1x6x8ft prime pine board or whatever wood you’re using. Make should you always glue and nail in with 1 1/4 inch finish nails.

    • Step 2-This step is for the barn door floor guide. If your not using one than you can skip this step. We need to put the notch on the bottom piece for the door. This is notch is for the barn door hardware that sits on the ground/wall to help keep your door from not swinging back and forth. Grab your bottom piece trim board (1×5 @ 39 3/4in) and cut about two blade widths (using your table saw) at 3/4 of an inch. upright.
