Top 6 different types of stucco textures & finishes
So you’re getting stucco done on your house? First, if you want to learn more about the stucco process, you can read it here. Otherwise let’s talk about the different types of stucco textures to pick from. Just like drywall texture (you can read about that here), stucco has a lot of different textures as well.
Like anything else, they all have their plus and minuses. But again, it all comes down to what you like most for you and your home. I broke it down to these 6 different stucco texture finishes for you.
Sand
This is a pretty common stucco finish. It looks like a sandy texture (hence the name) and its give a simple but pretty look. This finish is usually done in one coat and that’s why a lot of people or companies use it but its fast and affordable. It also comes in different finishes. You can get fine, medium or heavy. I have the fine sand finish on my current house.
Dash
This is also a common stucco finish. It has a look of gravel that gives a rough texture look. This also has different kinds of finishes, light, medium or heavy. Depending on how rough of the look you want of course. This stucco is a great option with hiding those potential cracks and imperfections.
Lace & Skip
This is probably one of the most popular finishes in 90’s and early 00’s. It has two coats to it. The base coat is more of a sandy texture and the top coat has a more patchy look to it. It can be on the rougher side but it can also be done in a smoother finish as well.
Catface
This finish is a smooth finish with rough patches, also known as “inclusions”. This is also done with two coats. You can achieve different looks with this depending how big and wide you want the inclusions.
Smooth
This finish is one of the more popular finishes nowadays. It has two coats to it. The base coat is to help cover the brown coat and the top coat is the final finish. It’s probably the most expensive stucco finishes because it takes more material and hard to do. It also has the downfall of showing cracks more than any other texture finish.
Worm
This finish isn’t very common anymore but we will still put it in the line up. This finish has large pieces of aggregate in it and has little indentations within the texture. It also has a fine, medium or heavy finish. This finish is very one of a kind but it also can be very hard to patch.
That’s a wrap on the different textures for stucco. Lots to choose from. If you still can’t make up your mind then just ask your stucco company on more information. Again, they all have their pros and cons, but just pick with will work with your budget and style of home you want to accomplish.
